Thrivent Financial is seeking volunteers to help pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child, a program run through the nonprofit Samaritans Purse that sends shoeboxes filled with school supplies, toys and hygiene items to children ages 2 to 14 around the world.

The packing happens from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 18 at the Alpena Mall, 2380 U.S.-23. The group hopes to pack more than 1,000 boxes.
