Hillman continues bandshell installation

HILLMAN — The Hillman Village Council is moving forward with the installation of a bandshell at Emerick Park, Village President Myron McIntire said during Tuesday meeting.

“We’re moving along with the bandshell,” McIntire said. “The concrete should be poured soon and once the concrete gets in, the rest of it shouldn’t take very long.”

The target date for the opening of the bandshell to the public is VJ Day on Aug. 11.

“That would be a good time to have it open,” McIntire said.

Village Manager Dave Post said it’s been a five year process to get the bandshell in Hillman. He recently received the stamped plans.

The council also is moving forward with a new boat dock at Emerick Park. McIntire said the village is having local contractors complete drawings for it.

“We’ll bring them up here when we get it approved to build it,” he said. “The metal is all ordered and we just have to figure out how to construct it.”

McIntire said a local contractor has to show them how the dock is going to be built. He said the target date has to be determined.

“I would hope by the first of September,” McIntire said. “We pull the docks out in November, so they better get at it pretty quick.

The council decided to not move forward with a dropbox at the Hillman Community Center. The dropbox would have been for those who need to drop in bills after the building is closed. McIntire said he wasn’t sure if it would be worth the money to install a dropbox.
