DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are down 28 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.55 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 2 cents more than this time last month and $1.57 more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $68 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $17 from 2025’s highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 8.98 million barrels per day to 8.38 million. Total domestic gasoline supply increased from 205.3 million barrels to 209.2million. Gasoline production decreased from 9.75 million barrels per day to 9.24 million barrels.

At the close of Friday's formal trading session, WTI rose $2.12 to settle at $104.12 per barrel. The EIA reports that U.S. crude oil inventories decreased 1.9 million barrels to 410.6 million barrels, 4% below the five-year average.

“Michigan gas prices fell 28 cents this week, providing some relief at the pump,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “Still, drivers are paying $1.57 more per gallon than they did a year ago.”

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit's average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit's current average is $4.58 per gallon, about 31 cents less than last week's average but still $1.59 more than this same time last year.

The most expensive gas price averages were in Ann Arbor where gas was $4.59 a gallon, while the least expensive gas price averages were in Flint at $4.43 a gallon.

Ways to Save on Gasoline

– Combine errands to limit driving time.

– Shop around for the best gas prices in your community.

– Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.

– Remove excess weight in your vehicle.

– Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.

– Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program can save 30 cents per gallon on their first fill-up and 5 cents per gallon each additional trip to the pump.
