AAA: Gas prices fall in Michigan

DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are down 12 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.03 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 17 cents less than this time last month but still 85 cents more than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $60 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $9 from 2025’s highest price last August.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 9.04 million barrels per day to 8.92 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 206.8 million barrels to 205.7 million. Gasoline production stayed the same as last week, averaging 9.8 million barrels per day.
At the close of Friday's formal trading session, WTI rose 18 cents to settle at $91.48 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories decreased by 4.5 million barrels from the previous week. At 424.5 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are 1% above the five-year average for this time of year.
“Motorists across Michigan saw some relief at the pump over Labor Day weekend, as the statewide average took a double-digit drop,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group.
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit's average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit's current average is $4.11 per gallon, about 5 cents less than last week's average but still 85 cents more than this same time last year.
The most expensive gas price averages were in Ann Arbor at $4.12 per gallon, while the least expensive gas price averages were in Grand Rapids at $3.89 a gallon.

– Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.

– Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.
– Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program can save 30 cents per gallon on their first fill-up and 5 cents per gallon each additional trip to the pump.
