DEARBORN- Gas prices in Michigan are down 21 cents from last week. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.15 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 22 cents more than this time last month and 91 cents more than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $62 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $11 from 2025’s highest price last August.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased slightly from 9.04 million barrels per day to 9.03 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 211.3 million barrels to 209.7 million. Gasoline production also decreased, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
At the close of Friday's formal trading session, WTI rose 89 cents to settle at $78.18 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 2.5 million barrels from the previous week. At 407 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.
“Michigan motorists are getting some relief at the pump, as the statewide average posts a double-digit drop,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group.
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit's average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit's current average is $4.19 per gallon, about 15 cents less than last week's average but still 98 cents more than this same time last year.
The most expensive gas price averages are in Ann Arbor where a gallon of gas us $4.27. The least expensive gas price average is in Marquette where a gallon of gas is $3.97.

– Consider paying cash. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.

– Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.
– Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program can save 30 cents per gallon on their first fill-up and 5 cents per gallon each additional trip to the pump.
