AAA: Michigan gas prices climb again

DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are up 12 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.27 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 19 cents more than this time last month and $1.13 more than this time last year.
Motorists are paying an average of $64 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $13 from 2025’s highest price last August.
According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand decreased from 9.03 million barrels per day to 8.96 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 209.7 million barrels to 208.7 million. Gasoline production also decreased, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.
At the close of Friday's formal trading session, WTI rose $1.15 to settle at $82.40 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories increased by 17.4 million barrels from the previous week. At 424.4 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 2% below the five-year average for this time of year.
“The relief Michigan drivers experienced last week was short-lived, as pump prices have reversed course and climbed by double digits,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “While the increase may be frustrating, motorists can help offset higher fuel costs by combining errands, maintaining proper tire pressure, and comparing gas prices before filling up.”
Compared to last week, Metro Detroit's average daily gas price increased slightly. Metro Detroit's current average is $4.23 per gallon, about 4 cents more than last week's average and $1.05 more than this same time last year.
The most expensive gas price average was in Ann Arbor at $4.33 a gallon, while Marquette, $4.05 a gallon, was the cheapest.

– Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program can save 30 cents per gallon on their first fill-up and 5 cents per gallon each additional trip to the pump.
