DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are up 20 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.15 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 11 cents more than this time last month and 99 cents more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $62 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $11 from 2025’s highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand remained flat at 8.84 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 212.1 million barrels to 210.5 million. Gasoline production decreased last week, averaging 9.6 million barrels per day.

At the close of Friday’s formal trading session, WTI rose $3.50 to settle at $81.78 a barrel. The EIA reports that crude oil inventories decreased by 1.7 million barrels from the previous week. At 409.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 6% below the five-year average for this time of year.

“Motorists across Michigan are seeing higher prices at the pump, with the state average moving back above $4 a gallon,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group.

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price increased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $4.09 per gallon, about 12 cents more than last week’s average and 89 cents more than this same time last year.

The most expensive gas price average was in Lansing, where it was $4.20 a gallon. The least expensive gas price averages were in Marquette at $4.05 a gallon.

– Drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.

– Enroll in savings programs. AAA Members who enroll in Shell’s Fuel Rewards program can save 30 cents per gallon on their first fill-up and 5 cents per gallon each additional trip to the pump.
