PRESQUE ISLE COUNTY: A 36-year-old man was arrested after fleeing from police during a traffic stop.

On July 10, 2026, at approximately 3:10 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post stopped a SUV on Beech near Spruce Street in Onaway for a vehicle violation.

A preliminary investigation indicates that troopers first observed the SUV traveling east on M-68 and saw the suspect pull into a gas station parking lot. Troopers attempted to stop the SUV for not having insurance; however, the driver accelerated and failed to stop. In accordance with MSP policy, troopers did not pursue but were able to maintain visual contact with the vehicle, which continued traveling at normal speeds.

Troopers later located the vehicle on Beech Street and observed the suspect, matching the driver running on foot while holding a black box. Troopers pursued him on foot, and after he failed to comply with their commands, the suspect was tasered and taken into custody.

Because a taser was deployed, the suspect was evaluated by EMS and then lodged at the Presque Isle County Jail. Troopers seized over 30 grams of suspected methamphetamine from the black box.

The suspect has been charged with one count of Flee and Elude Third Degree, two counts of Resisting and Obstructing police, one count of Controlled Substance Delivery/Manufacture Methamphetamine, and Operating without Security.
