LANSING – State Rep. Cam Cavitt today in Lansing recognized Deputy David Malton of the Presque Isle County Sheriff’s Office for his selfless actions and immense bravery while serving the public.
“Deputy Malton has shown repeatedly that he embodies the values that every officer should aspire to,” said Cavitt, R-Cheboygan. “Despite personal hardship, he has displayed a clear commitment to a life of public service, and his dedication to helping those around him is inspiring. He has been faithfully serving the department since 2021, and I wish him continued success as he keeps working with the Sheriff’s office to keep our community safe.”
Cavitt presented Deputy Malton with a legislative tribute on behalf of the state of Michigan, detailing some of his many demonstrations of courage in the line of duty.
“I felt everything that Deputy Malton had went through in his career deserved a special recognition,” said Presque Isle County Sheriff Joseph Brewbaker. “He went through two separate shootings. He went through unfortunate personal tragedy with his sister taking her life, and he found her. He had an inmate escape out of the back of his car. He found an illegal person in the county with help from border patrol. All within the span of ten months. That’s more than most people go through in their whole career. I felt he needed recognition for how wonderful a person he is, and how he still does his job every day with a smile.”
