The Business Relations Committee at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena recently welcomed local professionals and industry leaders to a Business Honor Roll Appreciation Picnic hosted by Alpena Agency in their downtown location.
Established in 1994, the Business Honor Roll brings together local companies and corporations interested in strengthening health care for our region. Through annual contributions that support essential equipment and services, members help ensure patients have access to the best care possible at the Medical Center. The picnic celebrated these organizations and their ongoing impact on health care for those living and visiting throughout Northeast Michigan.
During the event, Mike Erickson, market president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alpena, Saginaw, Standish, Tawas and Towne Centre, addressed attendees and expressed his appreciation for the group’s ongoing commitment:
“The Business Honor Roll reflects the spirit of this community and its commitment to quality local health care. These organizations show what’s possible when we work together on behalf of our patients, and their support helps us continue to meet the rising needs by providing modern, patient-centered healthcare. We are grateful for their ongoing support.”
These investments have a real impact. Pete Wilson, co-owner, Alpena Agency shared his own health journey and experience receiving care close to home during the picnic. Wilson shared that he was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and underwent extensive treatment, including surgery, chemotherapy and radiation. While he initially sought opinions at larger facilities, he ultimately chose to return to Alpena after learning he could receive the same high standard of care locally.
Wilson emphasized the importance of remaining near family and friends during treatment, noting the comfort and strength that support system provided during his cancer journey. Even after receiving a later Stage 4 diagnosis, he continued his treatment in Alpena and ultimately achieved no evidence of disease following immunotherapy thanks to the excellent care provided by the Alpena Cancer Center.
“Alpena Agency was a Business Honor Roll member long before my diagnosis. I always viewed it as an investment in our employees and our community,” Wilson said. “I never expected to be on the receiving end, but being here at home, surrounded by friends and family, made an immeasurable difference in my comfort and care.”
Wilson’s story underscores the value of having advanced, high-quality health care available locally. He concluded, “It’s incredible to have this level of care available right here in Alpena. Our hospital is truly a tremendous asset to this community.”
Alpena Agency is a longtime family-owned business currently transitioning into its fourth generation of leadership. Claire Kostelic and Erin Olsen, both née Wilson, along with their husbands Tanner and Micah, are actively involved and helping guide the company’s future growth and community engagement. As such, Claire and Erin recently renewed the organization’s longstanding commitment to the Business Honor Roll through a 10-year pledge.
“We are grateful for Alpena Agency — from Pete and Steve to the next generation of leadership in Claire, Erin, Tanner and Micah,” said Ann Diamond, director, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “Their sustained commitment is inspiring. The Business Honor Roll demonstrates what’s possible when local businesses unite around a shared mission.”
Through continued partnership and generosity, Business Honor Roll members are helping shape the future of health care in Alpena and the surrounding region, ensuring patients and families have access to exceptional care when and where they need it.
