ALPENA — On Tuesday, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office assisted in serving an eviction at a residence in Maple Ridge Township. Upon entering the home, deputies immediately located several firearms and items of drug paraphernalia. The homeowner was identified as 35-year-old Travis Johnson. Deputies determined that Johnson was a convicted felon and was prohibited from possessing firearms. The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office subsequently obtained a search warrant for the residence and property.

During the execution of the search warrant, deputies located and seized ten illegally possessed firearms, a large quantity of illegally possessed ammunition, and suspected narcotics. Johnson was subsequently arrested and lodged at the Alpena County Jail.

The Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office has charged Johnson with ten counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person, one count of Possession of Ammunition by a Prohibited Person, and one count of Felony Firearm.

On May 28, 2026, Johnson was arraigned in the 88th District Court. Bond was set at $25,000 cash or surety. Johnson is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. As with all criminal defendants, the charges are merely accusations unless a conviction is obtained
