Narcotics bust in Alpena

ALPENA COUNTY, MI. On February 19 at approximately 10:30 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Alpena Post conducted a traffic stop on 11th Avenue near Park Street in Alpena for a vehicle violation. The vehicle was initially slow to stop when troopers activated their emergency lights.

Troopers were suspicious of the delayed stop and observed additional indicators of possible criminal activity. A consent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of approximately 7 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 172 grams of individually packaged psilocybin mushrooms, 23 gabapentin pills, 17 grams of marijuana, and an additional 73 grams of suspected methamphetamine concealed inside a bag of dog food. All suspected narcotics were seized, and the driver was taken into custody.

The driver was identified as 55-year-old Gary Herrmann of Roscommon. He was arrested and lodged at the Alpena County Jail without incident. Herrmann was arraigned on February 23 in the 88th District Court in Alpena County on the following charges:

· One count: Controlled Substance – Delivery of Methamphetamine

· One count: Controlled Substance – Delivery of Marijuana

· One count: Controlled Substance – Creation/Delivery of an Analogue

Herrmann was given a $30,000 cash or surety bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 11 at 2:30 p.m
