ALPENA — There was no shortage of laughs and smiles at the Aplex on Saturday night, as a pair of talented comedians performed to the delight of residents of Alpena and beyond.
The comedy concert featured Greg Sharp and Steve Iott, who cracked jokes, shared funny stories, and even exchanged barbs with some of the people in attendance. Of course the exchanges between attendees and the comics were good fun and brought out some of the hardest laughter of the night.
Sharp shared funny stories about his father, mother, and girlfriend, but also displayed a serious side of himself when he talked about his struggle with depression. To help educate people about depression, he handed out rubber bracelets to those who wanted them as a way to thank them for attending the show.
Iott, who was staying at the Thunder Bay Resort in Hillman, lightheartedly joked about how many things in Northeast Michigan are named or marketed with Thunder Bay. He also poked a little fun at Hillman and questioned why so many local high schools have mascots named after big cats. He used the Hillman Tigers and often referred to the Alpena Wildcats as the Alpena Bobcats and after being reminded from the crowd that he had misnamed our local sports teams, he ran with the Bobcats name the rest of the night.
There are more comedy shows scheduled for next month, as John Hefron is slated to perform on April 11 and Jody Kerns Bad Grandma is scheduled for April 25. For more information on upcoming entertainment at the APlex check out its schedule of events on its website.
