Ice storm response update
ALPENA — Alpena County Emergency Operations continues to meet and respond to Sunday’s ice storm and have released information about where people can go to warm up and charge their devices and other critical information.
In a press release on Tuesday, it was announced that the Alpena County Warming Shelter is now open 24 hours in the Merchant’s Building at the fairgrounds evening entry ends at 9 p.m. for those who need assistance due to the recent ice storm in Alpena.
They are welcoming donations of water, orange juice, coffee, breakfast foods, cup o noodles, simply prepared food items, styrofoam bowls, paper plates, plastic silverware, diapers and wipes, formula, Mr. Clean floor cleaner, disinfectant sprays.
They also need volunteers for
– Cleaning/cooking
– Check in table
– Medical support nursing/medical assisting for elderly and disabled
Charter Township of Alpena offices are open for warming/charging of devices
All Saints Center for Charities 322 W Chisolm behind St Bernard’s Church
Dinner – 4-5:30 p.m.
Breakfast – 8-9 a.m.
Do not enter through the alley due to a downed power line.

The Water Plant and wastewater plant are back on grid power, everything is flowing well and manageable.

Please be patient regarding debris handling, due to the large amount of snow buildup at DPW there is not currently space for debris drop off. The currently available space is needed for debris cleared from roadways.
