Ice storm resources and update

ALPENA — The warming shelter at the Merchants Building in the fairgrounds is welcoming donations of gloves, coats, hats, and has an urgent need for sanitizing spray and disinfectant wipes. The shelter also needs volunteers. If you are interested in volunteering stop at the check-in desk at the Merchants Building.
The Alpena County Road Commission is hard at work, still doing significant amounts of tree cutting and removal in order to get to roads that still need to be plowed. The road commission asks residents to please be patient.
The My Michigan oxygen refill trailer will be located in the visitor parking lot near the HealthPlex South Entrance on the MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena campus, 1501 W. Chisholm Street. Volunteers will be available to fill tanks through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
All portable oxygen tanks without regulators can be filled at the trailer. Individuals should bring their tanks with regulators removed. Volunteers will be on-site to assist with the refill process.
Alpena County has a free emergency alert system called CodeRED that citizens can register with to get alerts. People can visit the Alpena County emergency management page on its website for more information and to register for receive important updates.
