ALPENA – According to an Alpena County Sheriff’s Office press release on Monday, the Alpena County Central Dispatch received a call of a two vehicle personal injury accident on M-65 near Silver Springs Road on Monday at approximately 7:35 a.m.

Law Enforcement and EMS were dispatched to the scene. Involved in the crash was a family traveling north into Alpena County. Four occupants of the northbound vehicle and both occupants of the southbound vehicle were transported to the hospital for injuries. At this time, there is one fatality as a result of the crash and others remain in critical condition.

M-65 was closed for approximately two and a half hours and is now reopened to traffic. The accident remains under investigation.

The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office was assisted on scene by Michigan State Police, MDOT, Alpena County Road Commission, Alpena City Fire Dept/EMS, Hillman Ambulance, Alcona EMS, and Green Township Fire Dept.
