Alpena County Emergency Operations recommendations

According to a press release from Alpena County Emergency Operations on Monday, residents are advised to take precautions following severe wintry weather that has left hundreds without power in Northeast Michigan.

Below are suggestions to stay safe and available resources:

— Drip water if you’re leaving the home and you don’t have heat. Expected cooling temps will put pipes at risk of freezing

— The Alpena County warming shelter is open at the Merchant’s Building at the Alpena County Fairgrounds. Hours of operation will be announced. Check back for updates.

— Trinity Episcopal church in Alpena will be open from noon until 4 p.m. for power charging stations, coffee, and warming.

— All Saint’s Parish All Saints Center of Charity in Alpena, located behind St Bernard’s Church, will be open from 4 until 5:30 p.m. for dinner. Visitors are advised to not enter through the alley due to a downed power line.

— Document damage with photos and descriptions for future claims.
