Local doctors prepare for annual dinner event

ALPENA — The Annual Support Committee of MyMichigan Health Foundation in Alpena will host Doctors Without Orders, a dining experience featuring local medical providers as waiters, according to a MyMichigan Health press release.

The dinner will be held at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26 in the Phoenix Room of JJ’s Steak and Pizza House in Alpena. The event features a custom fixed menu, 50/50 raffle, and a waitstaff comprised of local medical providers. All tips will support patient care and advanced technology at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. The event is open to the public. Due to limited seating, all guests must register before the event to be a part of the evening.

This year’s star waitstaff will include Andrea Arnoldi, Dr. Robert Currier, Dr. William Hitzelberger, Dr. Kristalyn Mauch, Amanda Radocy, and Dr. Thomas Thornton. They will be joined by Alcona Health Center’s Nathan Barden, JB Cook, and Dr. Michelle LaFave, along with Dr. Stephen Sheridan of Medical Specialists of Alpena.

Ann Diamond, development director, MyMichigan Health Foundation, said she is looking forward to the event.

“We are so excited to once again host Doctors Without Orders. It is always a night to remember,” she said in the release. “We have some truly exceptional providers acting as waitstaff this year. Last year’s proceeds supported an important piece of equipment that will play a crucial role in the future of the orthopedic program here in Alpena. I’m so grateful to all who participate, both as volunteers and diners. We hope to see a full house on Feb. 26.”

According to the release, this is the third year MyMichigan Health Foundation has hosted Doctors Without Orders.

“The event continues to be a tremendous success, with diners generously ‘tipping’ donations after enjoying a delicious meal,” the release stated. “Last year’s proceeds assisted with funding a new X‒ray machine for the orthopedic program at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.”

Construction will begin for the MyMichigan Health orthopedic offices in Alpena later this year, according to MyMichigan Health. This project will include the new WellSport Sports Medicine program, for relocation to the Medical Center’s main campus, where the new x‒ray machine will be installed.

The release stated that the machine uses state‒of‒the‒art technology to improve diagnostic accuracy, reduce radiation exposure, and provide faster treatment times for patients.

“By supporting this new piece of equipment, last year’s diners have played a vital role in strengthening future orthopedic care in our community and ensuring that this transition fully meets the needs of physicians and staff,” the release stated.

“The generosity of our guests continues to make a meaningful difference, and their contributions play an essential role in advancing the Medical Center,” Diamond added in the release. “Each year, this event becomes more than a dinner. In fact, it becomes a celebration of community, purpose, physicians, providers and shared commitment. We’re excited to once again welcome our diners for an evening filled with exceptional food provided by Jon Benson and his staff at JJ’s, and lively company that brings people together in the best possible way.”

Seating is limited for the event; individuals interested in attending may register online at mymichigan.org/dwo or contact Molly Signs-Schindler at (989) 356-7351.

During registration, guests will be asked to select from four dinner entrée options. There is no ticket or attendance fee for Doctors Without Orders beyond the cost of the meal, beverages, and a gratuity for the waitstaff, which is due at the conclusion of the evening.

Those who would like more information or to make a gift in honor of one of the participating providers can call Diamond at (989) 356-7738 or email ann.diamond@mymichigan.org.
