City of Alpena Water System customers are no longer required to boil their water before using, according to a City of Alpena press release on Saturday.

The precautionary measure to boil water before drinking, cooking, and washing dishes was lifted Saturday morning.

The City of Alpena water system lost pressure on Wednesday due to a water

main break on Ripley Boulevard. The release stated that due to the loss of pressure, bacterial contamination may have occurred in the water system.

According to the release, corrective measures have been completed and the main has been repaired. Bacteriological samples were collected and the results of these samples have shown that no bacteriological contamination occurred during the loss of pressure.
