Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) recently made various charitable donations in Northeast Michigan communities.
AAACU is a state-chartered credit union with membership eligibility open to any resident in the state of Michigan. As of Dec. 31, AAACU provides service to 49,171 members with total assets equal to $930,815,734.
Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union sponsors Dave Hillert Memorial Hubbard Lake Classic Fishing Tournament
HUBBARD LAKE — Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) team members Dean Kowalewsky and Liam Kieliszewski recently presented TJ Hoes with a check for $500 to sponsor the Dave Hillert Memorial Hubbard Lake Classic, according to a Sunday AAACU press release.
The Dave Hillert Memorial Hubbard Lake Classic is a walleye and perch ice fishing tournament held every year the weekend after the Super Bowl. Prizes are distributed for the longest fish in each category.
The release stated that the donation was made possible by AAACU’s Community Investment Fund. These funds are dollars donated back into Northeast Michigan communities thanks to credit union members who choose to receive their monthly statements electronically.
Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union sponsors Ice Fest with $1,000 donation
ALPENA–AAACU recently made a $1,000 donation to sponsor the Alpena Ice Fest hosted by the Thunder Bay Arts Council.
According to AAACU, this year’s event will be held on Feb. 21 with events throughout Alpena at Mich-e-kew-is and in downtown Alpena. Activities include live ice sculpting, a sledding hill, a bonfire, ice rink, ice graffiti wall, snow bowling, kids activities, and more.
“AAACU is proud to sponsor this community event that has become a wonderful new Alpena-area tradition,” the release stated.

Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union Donates $1,000 to Exchange Club of Alpena’s Prevention of Child Abuse Flag Project
ALPENA — AAACU recently presented the Exchange Club of Alpena $1,000.00 in support of their annual Prevention of Child Abuse Flag Project during the month of April, according to the release. April is National Prevention of Child Abuse Month.
The Exchange Club of Alpena has served the Alpena area for over 100 years through its programs and service. The funds raised during the flag project are distributed to local organizations whose mission it is to prevent child abuse and raise awareness. Flags will be placed on State Avenue along Mich-ekew-is and Starlite Beach, along the river on Washington Avenue, U.S.-23 North, and at select sponsorship locations.

Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union Donates $500 to Hubbard Lake/Sunrise Community Food Pantry
HUBBARD LAKE–AAACU recently presented the Hubbard Lake/Sunrise Community Food Pantry with a $500 check in support of their mission and efforts to feed families in need in the Hubbard Lake area, according to AAACU.
The release stated each month this food pantry operating out of Hubbard Lake serves around 150 families in need. With growing economic challenges and rising household costs the number of families seeking assistance has significantly increased. AAACU is proud to support local organizations that provide critical food assistance to those families in need. This donation is made possible by the credit union’s Community Investment Fund.
Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union Donates $1500 to Brew on the Bay
ALPENA — AAACU recently donated $1,500 to the Rotary Club of Alpena’s annual event, Brew on the Bay. Funds raised during this event support the Rotary Club’s projects and activities throughout the community including improvements to Rotary Island, maintaining the Starlite Beach Splash Pad, updates to the Bi-Path, increased benches and tables around town, and more.
