School bus crashes in Alcona County

On Jan 16., at approximately 1:45 p.m., Alcona County Central Dispatch was notified by Life360 of a crash detection in the area of M-65 and Fowler Road. north of Glennie.

Minutes later, central dispatch was contacted by the Oscoda Area Schools reporting that one of their buses transporting student athletes had been involved in a crash.

No one was injured in the crash.

Alcona County Deputies arrived on scene and found that the school bus was travelling northbound on M-65 when it lost control on the snowy road, slid into a guard rail, and then into a light-duty dump truck towing a trailer. The school bus was transporting six student athletes and two coaches.

The crash remains under investigation by the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office. Speed and snowy road conditions appear to be contributing factors. The fire departments on scene were able to keep traffic moving by the scene on M-65 while the crash was investigated and the vehicles were removed.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by Curtis, Curran, and Barton City Fire departments along with Alcona EMS.
