Hillman boys suffer first loss

ROGERS CITY — The Hillman High School boy’s basketball team suffered its first loss of the season as the Rogers City Hurons came out on the winning side of a tight 52-48 contest in Rogers City.

Hillman coach Eric Muszynski said his team Hillman struggled shooting coming off the Christmas break and lacked intensity for long stretches of the game. The boys bounced back in the fourth quarter to make a game of it, but couldn’t get over the hump.

“To put it point blank we did not come to play today and our intensity on the defensive end led to some easy looks for Rogers City,” Muszynski said. “We played the last eight minutes of the game the way we should have started but that’s how the cookie crumbles. Our shot selection was awful as well. We settled for way too many three pointers and that’s on me as coach.”

Leading Hillman was Evan Crane with 18 points, six rebounds, and five steals, while Eddie Prue added 16 points, seven rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Rogers City had three players score in double figures. Jacob Catalano had 19 points, while Justin Romel would add 14 points. Max Zavala chipped in 11 points.

Hillman falls to 6-1 overall on the season and it returns to action on Monday as the team travels to Fairview.
