Only 11 days left of Red Kettle fundraiser
ALPENA — The Salvation Army has 11 more days to meet their $190,000 goal, according to a press release on Sunday. As of Dec. 13, The Salvation Army has raised $113,705, which is less than 60% of their goal.
The release states that The Salvation Army still needs $76,294 to reach their goal by the end of the year.
“I know it seems like a lot to raise in 11 days, but I have been here for six Christmas’ and the community always seems to surprise me because they see the need,” Major Prezza Morrison said in the release. “I believe we can do it.”
According to The Salvation Army, the organization reached their goal of $185,000 “at the last minute” last year.
The release states that because of those funds, The Salvation Army was able to serve 225 families, 503 children, 913 total people, with 225 food baskets and over 2500 toys.
“Without the communities’ help this would not be possible,” Morrison said in the release.
“This year the number of families to serve is already more than the previous year’s numbers,” the release states. “The need is great and with the funds the Army receives they can meet the larger demands.”
According to The Salvation Army, the organization assists the community of Alpena throughout the year by providing community members in need with food and personal care items, utility and housing assistance, clothing and household supplies, emergency disaster services, winter wear, and more.
The release also states that The Salvation Army assists in procuring referrals to other agencies and churches “to better serve the whole person and get them on the path of self-sufficiency.”
“Since the funds come from and stay in Alpena, they provide programs that are specific to our community,” the release adds. “The Salvation Army thanks the community of Alpena County for their continued support. We can serve the numbers, we serve because of the generosity of our neighbors. Your care is shown in your giving and we are very grateful.”
Monetary donations are accepted via mail or in person at The Salvation Army Corps Community Center in Alpena, according to the release. Those wishing to make monetary donations online can also visit salmich.org/alpena. Donations are accepted via telephone, as well, at (989) 358-2769, ext. 6513.
“We look forward to seeing the difference our donors’ gifts make in our community,” the release states.
