ALPENA — On Friday, the smell of kettle corn wafted through the air outside the Friends Together building, bringing with it the holiday spirit of generosity.
Charlie Doan, owner of Kettle Nation, donated his time and effort in support of Friends Together, donating proceeds from popcorn sales to the organization.
Friends Together, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting those facing cancer diagnoses and their family and friends, hosted a downtown popcorn factory event Friday, inviting both Santa Claus and the Grinch to bring some holiday cheer. The Grinch waved to those passing by on State Avenue.
The event ran from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Executive Director Melissa Burns expressed her appreciation for Doan and the time and money donated to Friends Together.
There was nearly a non-stop flow of vehicles into the Friends Together parking lot of community members purchasing popcorn. Doan made kettle corn, caramel corn, and chicago mix.
The Friends Together staff and volunteers were dressed in their Christmas best and brought a cheery atmosphere to the event.
The flyer for the event read:
“Our parking lot transforms into the whimsy of Whoville, complete with an appearance by the Grinch! But who could bah humbug the amazing smell of fresh popping kettle corn or the sound of holiday music in the air?!”
