Crane arraigned on charge of unlawful driving away
Violet Crane
ALPENA — Violet Crane, 21, was arraigned for one charge of unlawful driving away in a motor vehicle in the 88th District Court in Alpena on Monday.
Crane was arrested early Monday morning. She was booked at the Alpena County Jail at 1:18 a.m. according to Jail Tracker. Crane is charged for an incident that occurred on Nov. 15 with a warrant issued on Dec. 15 according to MiCourt.
She was a passenger in an allegedly stolen vehicle and was arrested when the vehicle was pulled over during a traffic stop, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Alyssa Miller said.
Judge Ed Black confirmed to The News, and during Crane’s arraignment, that Crane was the passenger in the allegedly stolen vehicle which was involved in the officer-involved shooting on Monday, which killed a 35-year-old Alpena man.
The officer-involved shooting is still under investigation, according to Michigan State Police Seventh District Public Information Officer Ashley Miller.
Attorney Ron Bayot requested a personal recognizance bond for Crane, as he believes she is not a danger to the community.
Alyssa Miller requested a high bond given the number of criminal cases Crane has been involved in recently. She has also violated bond and failed to appear in court in the past.
Crane will be sentenced Feb. 2 in the 26th Circuit Court on charges of possession of methamphetamine/ecstasy and carrying a concealed weapon.
26th Circuit Court Judge Ed Black, filling in for Judge Alan Curtis, decided to hand Crane a $10,000 cash or surety bond.
Crane will next appear in court for a probable cause conference at 3 p.m. on Dec. 30 and a preliminary examination scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Jan. 7.
