Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union honors employee milestones, achievements, and retirements

ALPENA — The Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union (AAACU) recognized employee milestones, achievements, and retirements during its Annual Board and Employee Holiday Party, held on Dec. 4, 2025, at the APlex.
The event celebrated the dedication and contributions of AAACU team members whose service and commitment continue to strengthen the credit union and the communities it serves.
During the celebration, 14 employees and volunteers were recognized for milestone years of service, representing a combined 300 years in the credit union movement. Honorees included Chantel Gerard, Matthew Quaine, and Annabelle Rowe (five years); Clay Bauer (10 years); Jennifer McDonald, Jenny Peacock, Penny Seiler, and Jenny Zdybel (20 years); Denise Chapman and Terry Nelkie (25 years); Karen LaFleche (30 years); Gary Altman and Ann Genschaw (35 years); and Charlie Negro, AAACU Board Chairperson, who was honored for 45 years of service.
AAACU also announced the recipients of its 2025 employee awards including the Shining Start Award and the Personal Achievement Award. Rhea Smith, Financial Experience Advisor in the Contact Center, was named the overall recipient of the Shining Star Award, which recognizes employees nominated by peers for going above and beyond in their roles. Smith was recognized for her dedication to member service, record-setting productivity, team support, and community involvement, including fraud and scam awareness education. She was selected from among quarterly recipients Penny Seiler, Cassandra Travis, Rhea Smith, and Katie Eldridge.
In addition, Griffin Fairchild, Investment Specialist, and Karen Spens, Internal Auditor, were honored with the 2025 Personal Achievement Award. This award recognizes employees who demonstrate a strong commitment to professional and personal growth through continued education, training, industry involvement, and community engagement.
The evening also marked the retirement of four longtime team members: Cheryl Bauer, Jenny Peacock, Diane Cordes, and Carol Kowalski. Their years of service and positive impact on members and colleagues were recognized during the event.

Mills, President and CEO of Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union. “We are proud to celebrate their achievements, dedication, and service, and we thank them for the lasting difference they have made for our members and communities.”
