Wardlaw examination adjourned

ALPENA — Troy Wardlaw, 56, charged with possession with intent to deliver 50 to 450 grams of cocaine, appeared in the 88th District Court on Wednesday for his examination, which was adjourned.

Wardlaw’s defense counsel, Bill Pfeifer, asked Judge Alan Curtis for an adjournment of the examination and stated that Wardlaw is currently in an addiction treatment facility. Alpena Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Nancy Ward also said she would not be able to proceed with an examination that day.

Wardlaw allegedly possessed 425 grams of crack cocaine and over $2,000 cash when he was arrested on Sept. 28. That amount is approximately one pound of cocaine.

Wardlaw was given a $50,000 cash or surety bond. If found guilty, Wardlaw could face imprisonment for not more than 20 years, a fine of not more than $250,000, or both.

Prosecuting Attorney Cynthia Muszynski said at his arraignment that Wardlaw has allegedly made a lot of money off the addicts in the community.

Wardlaw posted bond and was released from jail on Oct. 6.

This is the second adjournment of Wardlaw’s examination. He was also scheduled for examination on Oct. 21, which was adjourned and moved to this week Wednesday.

The court has yet to schedule Wardlaw’s next hearing since Wednesday’s adjournment.
