ONAWAY — Voters in Onaway voted to reelect two incumbents to their Onaway City Council on Tuesday.
Prior to their respective reelections, Andrew Bischer had served on the city council for three years and Roger Marsh has served on the council for four years. Bischer received 106 votes while Marsh received 103. Challenger Larry Kenner was a distant third with 42 votes.
ROGER MARSH
Mash told The News in October that the biggest issue facing Onaway is economics. On Wednesday, Marsh stated that his goals for his next incumbency is to “make the city as financially solvent as we can.”
He added that public safety should also be a priority for the city council.

Though Marsh is a seasoned council member, he stated that he doesn’t “have a whole lot of power.”
“I’m only 20% of the city council,” Marsh added.
He explained that the council must make decisions as a cohesive entity and the “real power” comes from Onaway’s city manager, Kelly Stockwell.
“She’s absolutely fantastic,” Marsh said.
Overall, Marsh said he was pleased that voters exercised their constitutional right no matter if they voted for him or not. He said his win was “kind of anti-climatic” as this was his second re-election.
Marsh told The News that Onaway is important to him as he views it as “home.”
“I’m a third generation Onawanian and I’m raising a fourth generation Onawanian,” Marsh said.
Marsh explained that from his time in the military he had the opportunity to travel across the country and around the world. Despite those experiences, Marsh explained that he still views Onaway as his “roots.”
In October, Bischer discussed his concerns about people bringing mobile homes to Onaway with The News in October. He also stated that he believed his greatest achievement as a member of the city council was getting the grant for a snowmobile trailhead currently under construction.
“I’m grateful for the people that voted for me and am looking forward to helping the city grow and succeed,” Bisher told The News in a text message.
