Firefighters fire at Friendship Room in Alpena
The Alpena City Fire Department responded to the St. Bernard’s Friendship Room on Wednesday for a report of smoke coming from the boiler room. Upon arrival, the building’s maintenance person advised that no one was in the building and the fire was near a hot water tank that had some material placed against it during cleaning.
Fire crews made a quick entry and quickly extinguished the fire.
The fire was contained to the area of origin, but smoke damage was throughout the building due to the ignited material being plastic in nature. Exhaust fans were utilized to remove the smoke in the building.
Fire crews remained on scene for approximately an hour and no injuries were reported.
Alpena Police Department, Alpena Central Dispatch, DTE Energy, Alpena Power Company, and MyMichigan EMS assisted.
