APS to host “Reimagine our Future” forum next Wednesday
Alpena Public Schools invites all students, families, staff, and community members to a key community engagement forum to discuss the district’s “Reimagine Our Future” facility planning.
The forum will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Alpena High School Wildcat Den.
This event is a dedicated working session for the community to review and provide direct feedback on initial scenarios for the district’s long-term facility master plan. These scenarios were developed in partnership with the architectural and engineering firm Kingscott Associates, based on the district’s strategic plan.
The forum will be hosted by APS Superintendent Dave Rabbideau, along with Kingscott President Robert Atkins and Project Director Laura Casai.
“Our strategic plan gave us a clear direction: we must be responsible stewards of our resources to ensure long-term success,” said Rabbideau. “Now, as we explore what that looks like, the voice of our community is the most critical piece of the puzzle. These are not final plans; they are conversation-starters, and we need your expertise to help shape them.”
The scenarios being presented are designed to explore solutions for a number of long-term factors, including 50-year enrollment trends, the operational challenges of a 604-square-mile district, and aging infrastructure. Topics for discussion will include potential grade-level reconfigurations, centralizing programs, and options for using district facilities more efficiently and equitably.
