Magic in Our Midst at Island Park
Magic in Our Midst, a free Magical Event for children and their families to meet the animals of the woods, will be held on Saturday evening, November 8th at Island Park in Alpena. Island Park is located at the corner of US 23 and Long Rapids Road. Guided tours for a group of up to 8 people will begin at 5:00 p.m. with tours continuing every 10 minutes until 7:50 p.m.
At the start of the walk, participants will be greeted by the Spirit of the Island, Sah-gon-ah-ka-to. Children will receive a small flashlight to be used during the program. Led by a wizard guide, walkers will follow a lighted trail, as animal figures come alive through pre-recorded voices. After walking the trail (about 30 minutes), groups will be invited to stop at the Northland Credit Union trailer in Duck Park for a warm cup of hot chocolate and a box of animal crackers.
This is a free event sponsored by the Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary Board. However, everyone must have a time-stamped ticket which can be picked up at the Alpena Chamber of Commerce, 235 W. Chisholm St. in Alpena. Tickets will first become available at the Chamber on Friday October 24. Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
