ALPENA – A night of rock and roll at the APlex on Saturday night helped to raise money for 13 local charities and cheers from ticketholders.
In the facility’s ballroom, a stage, complete with high-tech lighting and video screens, were used as the centerpiece for Dream Chaser Entertainment’s 3rd annual Amplifying Alpena concert.
This year’s lineup was strong, as Lynch Mob — featuring George Lynch, founding member of the rock band Dokken — The Bulletboys, and Driving Dawn, a northern Michigan band, entertained the crowd with their dazzling stage presence and musical chops.
Lynch Mob was formed by longtime band member, Lynch, whose powerful guitar playing pushed Dokken into stardom in the 1980s and led the band to several platinum albums and sellout world tours.
Lynch and his bandmates performed several Dokken hits, as well as some of the hits from Lynch Mob.
At the end of the show, one of Lynch’s signature model guitars was raffed off with the proceeds going to local charities.
Lynch, who is best known for his sizzling guitar solos and technical wizadry, is ranked No. 47 on the list of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” by Guitar World magazine and No. 10 on the “Top 10 Metal Guitarists of All Time” by Gibson.
The Bulletboys released their self-titled album, and thanks to hits like “Smooth Up in Ya” and “For the Love of Money,” the release went platinum. Although they have long been veterans of the music scene, both national acts were in a groove on Saturday and soaking up the cheers from the local crowd.
The show and charitable event was hosted by Dream Chaser Entertainment and owner Don Monti, who has upped the ante for bringing national acts to Alpena.
Monti said the artists who have performed in Alpena, which include L.A. Guns and Jackyl, have spoken highly about the area, the crowds, and how they were treated while in town. He said agents are now having an easier time convincing their clients to perform in Northeast Michigan and more concerts in Alpena in the future are likely.
