DNR reminders for deer seasons
The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds hunters in a recent press release to leave enough time for deer tags to arrive in the mail if they purchase them online. Hunters must properly fill out kill tags and place them on the deer before field-dressing or moving the animal.
According to the DNR, hunters should ensure they have proper hunter orange garments to wear while hunting. Deer hunters are not required to wear hunter orange during archery season; however, all deer hunters, including those using archery equipment, are required by law to wear hunter orange during Michigan’s regular firearm deer season from Nov. 15 to 30.
Hunters can wear hunter orange garments that include caps, hats, vests, jackets, or raincoats that are worn as the outermost layers of clothing at all times, according to the release. Hunter orange is required on private or shared public land.
The DNR states that garments may have a camouflage pattern as long as the pattern is at least 50% hunter orange. The DNR recommends wearing as much hunter orange as possible to increase visibility to other hunters. Hunter orange does not deter deer.
