State lunch and breakfast funding will continue until Sept. 30
ALPENA — State funding that provided free lunch and breakfast for all students will continue until Sept. 30, according to a Wednesday press release from Alpena Public Schools. The State has not passed a new budget at this time, and whether meals will be funded after Oct. 1 is unclear.
The standard meal costs are listed below:
— Breakfast for students in grades K-12 will cost $2.25;
— Lunch for students in grades K-5 will cost $2.95;
— Lunch for students in grades 6-12 will cost $4.
Although families don’t have to pay for meals at this time, they must still complete qualification forms for their local school. Completed forms allow schools to qualify to receive state funding to pay for meals.
You can complete the form online at alpena.familyportal.cloud. Any family that needs assistance completing the application can contact their child’s school. If you have questions, contact Food Service Director Rachel James at 989-358-5021 or jamesr@alpenaschools.com.
