Smith impersonation case first appearance in 26th Circuit Court

ATLANTA, Mich. — Douglas Smith, 66, from Lewiston, had his first appearance in the 26th Circuit Court in Montmorency County on Monday since being bound over.

Smith is charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a license, using a fire department or emergency medical services emblems, and impersonating firefighter or emergency medical services personnel. He was also charged with possessing a firearm in the commission of a felony and reckless driving.

Smith appeared for a status conference, along with his defense counsel Christopher Parks, before Judge Ed Black.

Parks informed the judge that he is waiting on some additional discovery and needs to order the preliminary examination transcript.

The case is expected to proceed to trial. Smith will next be in court on Nov. 10 for a status conference.
