Long Rapids Road Bridge work starts Monday
The Alpena County Road Commission has announced that work will begin Monday on the Long Rapids Road Bridge rehabilitation project, weather permitting. The project location is on Long Rapids Road at the North Branch of the Thunder Bay River crossing.
The work consists of removing the existing superstructure, substructure repair and improvement, precast concrete box beams, concrete deck, placing asphalt pavement approaches, guardrail and other incidental work. The total estimated cost of the project is $1.8 million.
Funding for the contract work is being provided utilizing federal and state sources in addition to Alpena County Road Commission matching funds.
The project is slated to be completed by Nov. 14. This rehabilitation project will require a road closure and traffic will be detoured for the duration of construction. Long Rapids Road will be closed from Bolton Road to the 150 feet west of the existing structure. Bolton Road will remain accessible during the project.
Grand River Construction, Inc. is the general contractor on the project.
