Incident at Harrisville boat launch — no injuries
HARRISVILLE — While conducting a training session on Thursday at the Harrisville Harbor DNR boat launch, the Harrisville Fire Department had one of the fire apparatuses on a 1981 Chevrolet water tender sustain a mechanical failure.
Fire Chief Daniel Klukowski, along with a fireman training on portable pumps, refilled the tender. Once it was filled and attempting to leave the boat launch, the truck suffered a failure in the rear axle, which resulted in the truck running over the wheel chocks that were in place, rolling down the boat ramp, striking the south ramp and coming to rest in the water.
Other fire personnel arrived on scene and assisted in removing the truck from the water. Thankfully, no personnel or public were injured during the incident.
The Harrisville Fire Department is operating as normal and will still respond to emergencies, according to a press release from Chief Klukowski.
