Harrisville man dies after motorcycle/deer crash

A Harrisville man has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash with a deer.

On Monday at approximately 4:20 p.m., deputies of the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to McNeill Road near Coville Road in Haynes Township for an injury crash involving a motorcycle, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

The investigation revealed that Billy Joe Killen, 60, of Harrisville was traveling eastbound on McNeill Road when a deer ran out of the ditch and into the side of the motorcycle Killen was driving. The motorcycle and rider went down and made contact with the roadway, sliding approximately 90 feet before coming to a stop. Killen was transported to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena by Alcona EMS for serious head injuries sustained in the crash. Killen died later that evening from his injuries.

The Alcona County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Lincoln First Responders and Alcona EMS. According to the investigation there is no indication that Killen was wearing a helmet and alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
