ALPENA — Alpena Public Schools gladly accepted an offer from the City of Alpena Police Chief Eric Hamp to work together on a program that supports safety and builds trusting relationships with police officers. Officer Terri Curtis visits APS elementary schools within the department’s jurisdiction on a rotating basis.
“I have seen her in action, the kids really gravitate to her and admire her,” said APS Communications Director Lee Fitzpatrick. “Officer Curtis is great at building rapport with our kids and we appreciate the support of our City of Alpena Police Department.”
This program supplements the existing law enforcement contributions from Michigan State Police Trooper Jason Kunath who provides educational presentations on safety at all buildings, and the SRO (School Resource Officer) City Police Officer Jason Collegon at Alpena High School, and Alpena County Sheriff Department Deputy Sarah Lijewski at Thunder Bay Junior High.
“We are thankful for our local law enforcement agencies and their enduring commitment to keeping our students, staff and community safe,” Fitzpatrick added.
