The Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona Educational Service District (AMA ESD) is pleased to announce the addition of three new members to its Board of Education: Darrin Lightner, Lenny Avery, and Lisa Thayer, a Tuesday press release stated.

Each brings a wealth of professional expertise, community service, and passion for supporting students across Northeast Michigan, according to the release.

Since 1988, Lightner has held various educational roles in Northeast Michigan. He currently serves as the dual enrollment and early middle college liaison at Alpena Community College.

Avery serves as economic development coordinator for Target Alpena, leading housing and economic strategies across 11 counties in Northeast Michigan. His experience spans education, health, housing, and nonprofit sectors, and he brings a particular passion for advocating for students with special needs.

Thayer has dedicated more than 15 years to serving students as the school nurse for Alpena Public Schools. Her role has provided her with an in-depth understanding of the physical, emotional, and academic needs of students.

“We are honored to welcome Darrin, Lenny, and Lisa to the AMA ESD board of education,”

AMA ESD Superintendent Justin Gluesing said in the release. “Each of them brings a unique blend of experience, expertise, and community dedication that will strengthen our mission of serving students across our region.”
