Alcona County Fair begins Tuesday

News File Photo Competitors participate in the Alcona County Fair Bump and Run in a prior year. This year’s bump and run will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday.

LINCOLN — A bump and run, tractor pull, and a Wille Nelson tribute show are only a few of the many events at this week’s Alcona County Fair.

The highlight of the fair on Tuesday is the Alcona Hashslingers Skillet Toss which begins at 7 p.m. The livestock barns will also be open so people can go and see the animals and learn more about them. Tuesday is Donation Day.

On Wednesday, seniors 55 and older pay only $1 at the gate, and kids 17 years old and younger can ride the rides for free from 2 to 4 p.m. A horse fun show will be held at 6 p.m. at the horse arena. A Willie Nelson Tribute show will cap off the night. The show begins at 7 p.m. and it should be a hit for music lovers.

A tractor pull starts at 7 p.m., but there will also be live entertainment, as the Saddle Tramps Band will perform at the same time.

On Saturday, motocross racing will start at 11 a.m., and livestock sweepstakes will begin at 1 p.m. A bump and run will begin at 6 p.m. and once done, this year’s fair will be wrapped up.

Each day, Jonathon LaChance will provide comedic magic shows, and Muxlow Exotics Mobile Reptile Zoo will have two shows daily. A kids giveaway will be held at 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the Home Arts Building, with bikes, fishing poles, and more. The Madd Hatters Circus Sideshow will perform throughout the day, Thursday through Saturday.

There are many other things to do at the fair, as the midway will include rides for small children and older kids who like rides that provide more of a thrill. There will be carnival games, and food vendors who will provide the types of fair foods and drinks people expect each summer.

The cost to enter the fair is $5 during the week and $10 from 4 p.m. until close on Saturday. A week-long pass is $20. Kids 12 years old and under get in free.
