Alpena man arrested for allegedly accosting a minor online
On July 25, the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the Kent County Sheriff’s Office in regards to a person of interest accosting a minor online. Deputies from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office performed surveillance on a residence.
On July 27, deputies from the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on the residence, and electronics were seized. Deputies arrested a 63-year-old male. The Alpena County Prosecutor’s Office has charged the man with two felony counts of children — accosting for immoral purposes, and, computers — internet — communicating with another to commit crime — maximum imprisonment of four years or more but less than 10 years.
On July 29, The man was arraigned in the 88th District Court in Alpena, where a bond was set at $5,000 — 10%.
The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in attempting to locate other minor children that the man may have been communicating with either in-person, or online. A couple of the social media applications that he may have used for communication with other minor children were, “Chatib.us,” and, “Teleguard.” The man was utilizing the account name of “62upnorthman.”
