Sheriff warns of phone scam
The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office would like to alert the community of another phone scam, the office said in a Monday press release. An individual will call, claiming that they have been in a car accident or injured. Because of the injury, the individual will say that this is the only number they know and will ask for help by requesting money be transferred to them.
Do not give out personal information over the phone and never send money to anyone before confirming who you are talking to, the press release stated. Scammers will often try to rush you into making a decision. Talk to someone you trust before taking any action.
