ALPENA — The final project of the Safe, Warm, Dry bond will be completed by the end of the summer.
Alpena High School will be closed for upgrades this summer. Construction will take place both indoors and outdoors, and the building will not be open to visitors, according to a June 16 press release.
In 2020, voters in the APS district passed a $33.9 million bond for upgrades to buildings and grounds and improvements to safety and security.
Construction at AHS is underway to enhance safety, functionality, and infrastructure across the campus, according to a 2025 construction update.
Work is being done on new secure entry points. The main office and student entrance will be redesigned to improve building security and visitor management.
The main office is also being remodeled to support a more efficient workflow and enhance safety for staff and students.
New concrete sidewalks and new pavement on all parking lots and driveways will be completed to enhance traffic flow and replace aging infrastructure.
These projects are part of the district’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, welcoming, and modern learning environments, the update stated.
