ALPENA — Senior forward Faith Dragiewicz delivered a standout performance on Tuesday night, scoring four goals to lead the Alpena High School girls varsity soccer team to a 5-0 shutout victory over Cheboygan.

Dragiewicz wasted no time putting Alpena on the board, scoring just over five minutes into the first half off a pass from Sophie Kindt. She followed up with a second goal assisted by Anna Skiba, and completed her first-half hat trick with an unassisted strike to give the Wildcats a 3-0 lead at halftime.

“We just kept pushing their back line and finding the back of the net,” Dragiewicz said. “They played a flat defense, and it created great holes for us to create scoring opportunities.”

Cheboygan picked up a yellow card midway through the second half at the 22:17 mark. Less than a minute later, Dragiewicz struck again — this time assisted by Kiera Paad — for her fourth goal of the game.

Sophie Kindt capped off the night with a penalty kick goal with 10:46 remaining to make it 5-0.

“Our dynamic connection on the field is what makes our offense click,” Dragiewicz said. “Everyone was making great passes and through balls that gave me the chance to finish.”

As a senior leader, Dragiewicz also recognized the team’s defensive efforts.

“In my head, scoring is like repaying the defense for their hard work,” she said. “They are the backbone of the team and are key to us winning games.”

Looking ahead, she added, “We just need to keep doing what we’re doing and be more aggressive. I want to keep working on winning more 50/50 balls off goal kicks and drop kicks to help support our midfield.”
