Freediver and spearfisher to present at Marine Sanctuary

ALPENA — The Friends of Thunder Bay National Marine Sanctuary and the Michigan Spearfishing Association are co-hosting an event on Thursday at 6 p.m. at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center featuring Kimi Werner.

She is traveling the midwest to research a new cookbook that will feature freshwater resources. She is a well-known freediver and spearfisher, as well as a certified chef. This event will feature one of her films, a question and answer session, and a cookbook signing.

Her cookbooks will be available at the Sanctuary Store.

Enjoy a special evening with this Hawaii native, whose work brings together adventure, sustainable fishing, conservation, and food.

Featured in films and documentaries, as well as a certified culinary chef, author of a cookbook, and sought-after speaker, Kimi has spent years exploring the world’s coastlines, sharing her passions for the natural world and sustainability.
