A meaningful day of learning and connection

ALPENA — On June 6, the Alpena Senior Citizens Center welcomed community members and specially–trained professionals for a gathering focused on learning, support, and connection.
The event featured presenters from Dementia Together in northern Colorado, Cyndy Luzinski, Sarah Armold, and Annie Hepburn from the Alpena Senior Citizens Center, and about 35 community members joined the day, creating a welcoming space to learn from one another and share in the experience.
What People Took Away from the event:
• How to build confidence in responding to dementia-related changes
• Practical tools for communication and crisis prevention
• Ways to maintain emotional connection and well-being
• How to find understanding and support from others
• Resources that promote self-care and long-term resilience
Reflections from the Day
Those who attended shared thoughtful reflections about what the day meant to them, including:
– Understanding more through our loved ones’ eyes
– Learning about the ‘photograph album’
– Our loved ones may not remember, but they still have feelings
One attendee captured the spirit of the day beautifully when they said “Every meeting I attend, I learn something new.”
