HARRISVILLE — The Alcona County Library has released its upcoming schedule of events for and there are a host of fun and exciting things for people of all ages to enjoy.

Please note that all branches will be closed on May 23 and May 25 for Memorial Day.

All events below with the exception of the Board of Trustees meeting take place at the main library in Harrisville.

On Thursday through Saturday, The Friends of Alcona County Library will hold its Spring Book Sale. Support library events and programs with your purchase of gently used books at unbeatable prices.

The May art exhibit will feature recent works by the Northeast Michigan Artists’ Guild, including paintings, mixed media, woodworking and more, on display at the Harrisville branch through May 26.

On the first Friday of the month at the Harrisville branch it is Free Popcorn Friday and people can help themselves to a bag of theater-style popcorn, while supplies last.

On Saturday at 11 a.m., Friends of the Library will draw the winning name for the spring quilt raffle.

On May 5 at 5 p.m. Fans of Pokemon are invited to join the library’s new Pokemon Club. Learn to play the Pokemon Battle Academy trading card game with fellow aspiring Pokemon trainers.

On Wednesdays, home schooled and alternatively-schooled youth are invited to partake in our weekly S.T.E.A.M. activity, intended for school-age kids who are able to read.

Every Thursday, the walking club for everyone. Meet in the parking lot at the main branch for an enjoyable stroll through Harrisville before the library opens.

Every Thursday at 10:30 a.m. is Story Time and Craft for young children. Our Children’s Specialist Melanie will read a story aloud, and lead a craft for young patrons and their grownups to enjoy.

Every Monday at 10:30 a.m. is Music & Movement with Miss Melanie. Our weekly program for kids ages 0-5 will get them singing and dancing together!

Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. is a Ukulele Jam. Learn to strum crowd-pleasing songs both old and new with our welcoming collective of musicians.

On the first and third Tuesday of May at 1:15 p.m. the Knitting Klub and Crochet meet and is open for all practitioners of the fiber arts, beginner to advanced.

On Wednesday May 6 at 1 p.m. The Friends of Alcona County Library will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Harrisville branch.

Monday, May 11th at 2 p.m. “Make-it Monday” craft for adults. Our May craft project, led by Mary Cordes, is a mosaic trivet. A $15 supplies fee is required; please call 989 724-6796 to RSVP.

On May 13 at 2:30 p.m. the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services presentation on Harmful Algal Blooms. Michigan residents living near or visiting bodies of water should be aware of the potential for harmful algal blooms (HABs). Learn the basics of how to recognize blooms that can pose risks to your family and pets, what you can do and how to report them.

On May 18 at noon the Alcona Book Club will hold its regular monthly meeting to discuss “How To Lie With Maps” by Mark Monmonier. Copies are available at the Harrisville circulation desk.

On May 19 at 5 p.m. Cookbook Club will meet to sample recipes from “The Absolute Best Dump Dinners” by Rockridge Press. Copies are available at the Harrisville circulation desk.

On May 20 at 3:30 p.m. is Watercolor Spring Blooms. Young artist Abigail Adams will lead a class in painting bouquets of watercolor florals, for students age 8 to adult. $5 fee for supplies. Please call 724-6796 to RSVP.

On May 27 at 2 p.m. the Alcona County Library Board of Trustees will hold their regular monthly meeting at the Mikado branch, located at 2291 S F-41.
