ALPENA – Doctors Without Orders, a dinner event hosted by MyMichigan Health Foundation Alpena’s Annual Support Committee, recently took place at JJ’s Steak and Pizza House. The event featured volunteer waitstaff comprised of medical providers and raised funds for a new orthopedic X-ray machine for MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena. Thanks to the generosity of attendees, this year’s event raised an impressive $8,521.

The committee also extends its appreciation to the volunteers who supported the event, including medical providers who served as guest waitstaff. Those providers included MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena’s Andrea Arnoldi, F.N.P.-B.C., Dr. Robert Currier, Dr. William Hitzelberger, Dr. Kristalyn Mauch, Amanda Radocy, F.N.P.-C., and Dr. Thomas Thornton, as well as Alcona Health Center’s Dr. Michelle LaFave, Nathan Barden, P.A.-C., and JB Cook, P.A.-C., and Dr. Stephen Sheridan of Medical Specialists of Alpena.

During the program, Dr. Mauch shared how the funds raised will directly impact the Alpena’s orthopedic program. “Later this year, the MyMichigan Health orthopedic offices in Alpena, including the new WellSport Sports Medicine program, will relocate to the Medical Center’s main campus. As an orthopedic surgeon, I’m excited for this change. Having all of the orthopedists together under the same roof will improve patient care and expand our ability to work together directly.”

She went on to emphasize the essential role updated technology will play in the new space. “X‒rays are truly foundational to orthopedic diagnostics, and having a new, state‒of‒the‒art unit in place as we transition is an ideal way to begin this next chapter. We are so grateful for the tremendous support from tonight’s diners. Thank you!”

Ann Diamond, development director, MyMichigan Health Foundation, reflected on the event’s strong turnout and community spirit. “We are so grateful to our volunteer providers, support staff and attendees. This was our largest year yet in terms of diners, and we are so happy to see the continued attendance and support of so many people from throughout our community. I’d also like to give a special thank you to Jon Benson and his staff at JJ’s Steak and Pizza House, as they continue to go above and beyond to make dinner and the entire night truly great!”
