March is Reading Month at every branch of the Presque Isle District Library with contests and drawings county-wide for reading! The Millersburg and Rogers City libraries both have book bundle checkouts for the young readers of the county, with each bundle checkout resulting in an entry for a prize. Grand Lake Branch Library has an Reading Raffle running all March for ages 0-17 years old. Materials checked out from the Grand Lake Branch are good for entries into a drawing for a Lego Prize Pack offering fun for every age. Posen and Onaway branches have guessing games and entries to win additional various branch prizes for all ages.
Reading month isn’t only for the kids, the adults have a chance to win prizes for trying a new book, writing quick reviews, and just reading your favorite authors.
The Zonta Club of Rogers City and PIDL will host a free live stream event about The New Space Race in the large conference room on March 29, at 7 p.m., with refreshments beginning at 6pm. This program is part of the Northwestern Michigan College International Affairs Forum and will highlight how data, resources and power are shaping the future. Presented by the IAF student leadership team, this live stream explores the new space race, competition between governments and corporations, resources access, and data control. Experts will examine the consequences for citizens, the environment, and the balance of global power.
Coming up for our teens in March, Miss Madi will host a Sun Catcher class on March 20 at 3 p.m. at the Rogers City Library. Teens ages 12 to 18 years old can attend and make their own dazzling, unique sun catcher to brighten up the upcoming spring season.
Book Carving and Junk Journaling are the themes for this month’s Craft Club at the Millersburg Branch. On March 24 at 1 p.m. join in the fun and learn how to junk journal with books, paper scraps and up-cycled materials. Bring any special scrapbooking supplies, magazines or other paper “junk” you may want to use, and the library will provide the books and all other supplies. Call Millersburg Branch to register for this creative class.
Rogers Theater is hosting a Rogers City Community Theater production of “The Angel Next Door” running March 20-22, and March 27-29. Tickets for the event are available at the door. Springing forward into April will be the film “Hoppers” as well as the popular “Great Waters Film Festival,” featuring films centered around the eco-systems and natural world of the Great Lakes Region.
